Foundation: Thanks to everyone who joined Road Safety Week

Ukraine hosted the Road Safety Week on May 12-17. Due to quarantine, for the first time, most events were held remotely. Its main purpose was to draw attention to the problem of accidents on Ukrainian roads, to remind drivers, pedestrians and other road users about compliance with traffic rules and safe behavior on the road.

All-Ukraine Road Safety Week is held annually with the assistance of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministries of Infrastructure, Interior, Health, Education and Science, State Transport Safety Service, Patrol and Juvenile police, Motor (transport) insurance bureau of Ukraine, a number of public and business organizations whose activities are related to transport safety.

The International Charitable Foundation “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents”, is among the main co-organizers of the Road Safety Week, thanks everyone who, despite the quarantine, was able to join the event.

During this week, about ten thousand donors across Ukraine joined the event for giving blood for road accident victims as part of the annual charity event “Give blood to save lives”, which has been held for more than five years at the initiative of the Foundation. Most of them are representatives of the National Police of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety, the Judicial Protection Service of Ukraine, as well as volunteers and ordinary citizens. Every year the action aims to draw attention to the problem of injuries and deaths on the roads, especially among children, and therefore the help of everyone is very important for us.

More than five million views were received on the Internet by online lessons for schoolchildren on the basic rules of the road and the basics of home care, prepared during the Week by the International Charitable Foundation together with the Patrol Police of Ukraine. We are pleased that students and pupils of many educational institutions responded positively to these videos, and also actively supported the holding of the Week with drawing contests, thematic promotions, video reviews, etc.

Working with socially responsible active youth, the International Charitable Foundation “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents” in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine announced this year’s annual photo and video work contest among children and youth within the national project “Safe Country”. This year, the competition is reaching the international level, and we expect to receive even more works that would promote safe behavior in society. The support expressed by our domestic and international partners for the initiative to hold the competition is very important for us.

The International Charitable Foundation “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents” will continue to develop activities within the framework of the Safe Country national project, as well as other projects aimed at reducing injuries and deaths on the roads, outside the Week. We encourage those who care about this topic to join our team!

We hope that the second stage of the Road Safety Week in November will be held in the usual format. It is tentatively scheduled for November 9-15, 2020.
