“WE KNOW AND ACT” PROJECT ON PREMEDICAL CARE AND ROAD SAFETY LAUNCHED IN UKRAINE
The International Charitable Foundation “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents” together with the Kyiv Interregional Branch State Enterprise “Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine” of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine have launched the project “We Know and Act”, the aim of which is to train the skills in provision of premedical care and road safety to as many Ukrainians as possible. State institution “Superheroes School” of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has become a pilot institution, whose employees will be trained on premedical care through the project’s online platform.
The project on premedical care and road safety “We Know and Act” is being launched within the framework of the 7th Global Road Safety Week, which takes place around the world from May 15 to 21. The project was presented on May 15 during round table (press conference) on the occasion of the start of Global Week in Ukraine. On May 16, the project was presented to the first participants – the teaching staff of the State institution “Superheroes School”.
“Road safety is a very important issue that the United Nations and the World Health Organisation are dealing with. Injuries and deaths on the road remain a serious problem for the world. According to statistics about 1.3 million people die every year as a result of road accidents, and about 50 million are injured. Therefore, one of the areas of work necessary to reduce road deaths is the ability of a person to provide premedical care timely and correctly to victims in emergency conditions and road accidents,” President of ICF “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents” Yurii Chornyi said addressed to educators.
“I am grateful to our partners for their long-term cooperation in preventing child injuries on the road, bullying and other forms of violence. And this time we are involved in the implementation of the project that will allow to learn rules of premedical care on a professional level,” said Viktor Salkov, Deputy Director of the state institution “Superheroes School”, during the presentation.
Considering that all “Superheroes School” employees work with vulnerable children, teachers will study the course “Premedical care in case of sudden blood circulation stop in adults (8 hours)”. With the help of lectures and author’s video lessons educators will master the theory on the “We Know and Act” online platform on their own and then attend practical classes.
About the “We Know and Act” project
Educational and training programme of the 1st level training on premedical care and road safety “We Know and Act” includes three courses oriented on different target groups.
In particular, “Course on organizing the activities for teachers on provision of premedical care and save behavior on the road (30 hours, 1 credit ECTS)” was made for educators to develop professional competencies of education workers necessary for partnership interaction with participants of the educational process (teachers, students, parents) to provide premedical care to victims in emergency conditions and road accidents and to learn the rules of safe on the road.
The aim of other two courses “Premedical care in case of massive bleeding (8 hours)” and “Premedical care in case of sudden blood circulation stop in adults (8 hours)” is to train non-medical workers to provide premedical care.
The training covers a wide audience, including office workers, service sector workers, drivers of vehicles and other workers, who regardless their job responsibilities, want to master the skills of premedical care.
The training within the framework of the “We Know and Act” project includes theoretical and practical part. In particular, participants acquire theoretical knowledge on their own using “We Know and Act” learning online platform, which contains lectures and a series of author’s video lessons.
Training on premedical care complies with the standards, required by the international BLS (basic life support) programme and the 1st level of the premedical care course in accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine № 346 dated March 29, 2017 “On improving the training on premedical care for persons who do not have medical education”.
