ROAD LITERACY LESSONS IN SCHOOLS WILL BECOME HIGH QUALITY AND MORE INTERSTING: TEACHERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH APPROPRIATE COURSES

Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine approved Typical in-service training programme for teachers of General Secondary Education Institutions «We know and act» (Order №62 dated January 26, 2022) with the purpose of mastering new methodological tools of teaching rules of save behavior on the road and the basics of providing premedical care among schoolchildren. The course is developed within the framework of the formation of safe and healthy educational environment in Ukraine.

The course is designed for teachers, principals, deputy principals, teacher-organizers, social pedagogues, practical psychologist in schools and includes 4 training modules with a total duration of 30 academic hours in such areas:

  • premedical care (compulsory practical course with obtaining a State Certificate) which includes mastering of basic principles of premedical care, blood loss assistance, disturbed passages of the upper respiratory tract, carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • rules of save behavior on the road for participants of the educational process – traffic rules for pedestrians, behavior and algorithm of actions in case of road accident, the use of reflective elements for road safety, insurance literacy;
  • the use of methodological tools to develop and conduct training sessions on premedical care and save behavior on the road;
  • final monitoring of learning outcomes.

The International Charitable Foundation as one of the developers of this Programme sincerely grateful to the Ministry of Education and Science for supporting this initiative. Having more than a decade of experience in the field of road safety, working with victims, conducting premedical care classes among children and youth, we understand the importance and relevance of this topic among the younger generation, and even more – the need for relevant knowledge among educators. Within the framework of the course on formation of safe educational environment set by the Government of Ukraine, the acquired knowledge and skills will give an opportunity for educators to be more aware of the topic and to convey it to parents and pupils in more effective and interesting way. We hope that by completing compulsory practical course in premedical care the number of those who can react in case of an accident confidently and efficiently and safe someone’s life will increase.

The Foundation will support the implementation of this Programme in all of these areas and will also continue to work on the development of thematic teaching materials to help teachers. Last year, we published the methodological manual “Safe Way to Home”, which explains to pupils the rules of behavior on the road, the principles of the use of reflective elements, the algorithm of actions in case of road accident, the basics of insurance literacy in a simple illustrated form. Illustrative materials is currently being prepared to equip road safety corners in classrooms. Thematic educational videos are being produced.

Every year, on average, about 2 hundred children are killed on the country’s roads and more than 4 thousands are injured.
