On November 17, a round table «Safe educational environment. Organizational and educational aspects of improving the safety of children and youth on the roads» was held online as a part of the Road Safety Week, initiated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in cooperation with the International Charitable Foundation «Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents».

The event was attended by heads of regional and city educational departments. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Department of Patrol Police of Ukraine, and a number of public and business structures dealing with the topic were involved as speakers.

During the event were discussed ways to reduce the risk of traffic injuries among children and youth, presented current and effective practices for the formation of safe behavior of participants in the educational process, which can be used on the ground:

• creation of a map of a safe way to educational institutions;
• introduction of innovative technologies of high-speed mode in school territories and «artificial intelligence» in driving school buses;
• legal aspects of the use of personal electric vehicles and legal liability of minors;
• compliance with the rules of use of reflective elements for the safety of children in the dark on the road.

A new program «Know and act» developed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in conjunction with specialists of Kyiv Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education of Teachers and ICF «Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents» was presented to participants. The program is aimed at acquiring skills for initial care, the formation of practical knowledge and skills to promote this topic in the educational institutions. The proposed methodological tools will firstly enable educators to obtain a full Certificate of Initial Care, and secondly, to implement the knowledge gained in the educational program in the course of both educational and extracurricular activities with children.
