THE NUMBER OF FATAL ROAD ACCIDENTS HAS INCREASED IN UKRAINE

Since the beginning of the year, 1 314 people have died as a result of road accidents in Ukraine, which is 15.3% more than in the same period in 2022.

The statistics on road accidents with victims in Ukraine for the six months of 2023 was published by the Department of Patrol Police.

 

According to police, from the beginning of the year there have been 10 226 road accidents with killed and injured in Ukraine (in the same period in 2022 – 7 133).

 

1 314 citizens died as a result of road accident (in the same period in 2022 – 1 140), including 64 children (in the same period in 2022 – 53). 12 755 more people were injured (in the same period in 2022 – 8 925), including 1 828 children (in the same period in 2022 – 1103).

 

In general, the largest number of road accidents with injured among the regions in the first half of 2023 were registered in Kyiv, where 878 road accidents happened. The top five regions with the highest number of accidents include: Dnipropetrovsk region, where 808 road accidents happened, Lviv region – 610 road accidents, Kharkiv region – 549 road accidents and Kyiv region – 537 road accidents.

 

The highest number of fatalities as a result of accidents during this period were registered on the roads of Dnipropetrovsk region – 94 dead (in the same period in 2022 – 55), Lviv region – 51 dead (in the same period in 2022 – 55) and Kharkiv region – 57 dead (in the same period in 2022 – 17). In the six months of this year 56 citizens died on the roads in Kyiv (in the same period in 2022 – 33).

 

The main causes of road accidents with victims were:

 

exceeding safe speed – 675 dead and 3948 injured;

violation of maneuvering rules – 210 dead and 2287 injured;

violation of rules for crossing intersections – 18 dead and 836 injured;

violation of rules for pedestrian crossings – 60 dead and 718 injured;

infraction of the vehicular distance – 33 dead and 486 injured;

driving vehicles in the state of alcoholic intoxication – 30 dead and 401 injured;

pedestrian crossing in an undisclosed location – 92 dead and 399 injured;

speeding – 60 dead and 277 injured;

driving to oncoming traffic – 64 dead and 212 injured.
