This week, people across Ukraine are giving blood in support of those injured in the accident. The nationwide action “Give blood to save lives” is held at the initiative of the International Charitable Foundation “Assistance to Road Accident Victims” twice a year as part of the All-Ukraine Road Safety Week. The aim of this action is to help doctors to collect blood that will really be useful to road accident victims, and most importantly, to draw public attention to the problem of injuries in road accidents, high mortality due to blood loss, lack of donor blood in Ukraine.
The campaign took place in Kyiv at the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital. This morning alone, on November 12, more than 60 people responded to give blood and its components for the children injured in the accident. Among them are our regular donors – employees of the National Police, the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety, the Judicial Protection Service, the Security Service of Ukraine, as well as citizens. Given this year’s quarantine restrictions, this is a fairly large number of applicants. Nevertheless, the doctors and the management of the hospital express their sincere gratitude to all those who joined the good cause. After all, given the difficult situation on the roads, blood for the victims of road accidents is needed almost every day, and the blood bank needs constant replenishment.
We will remind, this week it is possible to join the action “Give blood to save lives” and in other centers of blood transfusion across the country. We recommend only to find out the hours of reception in advance.
We also encourage you to join blood donation not only within the actions, but also outside them. According to statistics, only 10-15% of people can donate blood as those who do not have serious contraindications. Unfortunately, there are even fewer donors who are ready to do so. And this is a significant problem.
Remember, your blood can save someone’s life!
