Students and teachers of Sumy Higher Technical School of Construction and Design joined the All-Ukrainian Social Project # I_can_HELP_you, to teach children and young people the basics of providing first aid to victims of road accidents and in the case of emergencies. The project is organized by joint efforts of the International Charity Fund «Assistance to victims of accidents» and the Office of Juvenile Prevention of the National Police of Ukraine.
Vableriy Zhbanov, a spokesman for the International Charity Fund in Sumy Oblast, a doctor-psychophysiologist of the Center for
Medical Road Safety, described the main tasks of the training: «In our classes we teach students to carry out cardiopulmonary
resuscitation, help with loss of consciousness, to help with burns and bites of poisonous snakes and insects, drowning and other accidents. And together with police representatives, we show how to act and provide assistance to the victims as a result of road accidents».
According to the organizers of the training, it is necessary to provide first aid only when you feel confident and know that you can do, but to avoid any improvisations. Whatever the situation was critical, one has to seize himself and follow a clear algorithm of action. Speaking about someone’s own safety, the doctor Valeriy Zhbanov advised to take care of at least two things in his
pocket – latex gloves and a mask valve for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or at least a nosebleel. «The set of these items will
cost quite low, and they will take up a small amount of space in their pockets, but they will really help in saving someone’s life», – he said. According to him, the main thing is to know what to do in a critical situation. It is better to know and never use than not to be
able to save.
The trainings will last until the end of the spring. All participants will receive certificates.
