As part of the Road Safety Week in Ukraine, the annual charity campaign “Give Blood to Save Lives” was held to promote blood donation and help victims of road accidents.
Road traffic injuries remain the leading cause of death among young people aged 15-29 years. In general, every year, 3 thousand people die worldwide as a result of road accidents and about 100 thousand are seriously injured.
During the full-scale war in Ukraine the number of deaths and injuries on the roads, unfortunately, has not decreased, that’s why, the need for donor blood during this difficult time has become more critical.
To promote the donor movement, Kyiv Interregional Branch of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine” of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the International Charitable Foundation “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents” systematically organize the “Give Blood to Save Lives” action, which aims to help victims of road accidents as well as to treat children and wounded defenders.
In particular, the Foundation expresses its sincere gratitude to all the Blood centers in Ukraine, the Children’s Hospital “OHMATDYT”, which have joined to the campaign, as well as to the employees of the departments of the National Police of Ukraine, Patrol Police, Judicial Protection Service, Ukrtransecurity, the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in all regions and to all not indifferent donors who selflessly gave blood, filling up necessary supplies, during whole Week.
There is currently a serious deficiency of donor blood in Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Health, the need for donated blood and its components has increased by more than 40% from the beginning of the war. Since blood banks need constant replenishment, we call on to donate blood not only as part of charity actions, but also outside them.
