ANNOUNCEMENT: THE CHARITY CAMPAIGN “GIVE BLOOD TO SAVE LIVES” WILL TAKE PLACE IN UKRAINE

From November 13 to 19, within the 2nd stage of the Road Safety Week, an annual national charity action “Give Blood to Save Lives” will take place in Ukraine to promote blood donation and help victims of road accidents.

Road traffic injuries are one of the most common causes of death in Ukraine. Every year, more than 3 000 people are killed on the roads and more than 30 thousand are seriously injured. Significant blood loss is the main reason of death or severe conditions of road accidents victims, which are diagnosed at the time of arrival of the ambulance.

There is currently a serious deficiency of donor blood in Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Health, the need for donated blood and its components has increased by more than 40% from the beginning of the war. Since blood banks need constant replenishment, it is important to donate blood not only as part of charity actions, but also outside them.

To promote the donor movement, the International Charitable Foundation “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents” and Kyiv Interregional Branch of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine” of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine systematically organize the “Give Blood to Save Lives” action, which aims to help victims of road accidents as well as to treat children and wounded defenders.

Blood donations will be available from November 13 to 19, 2023 at the:

  • Kyiv Municipal Blood Center (from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Maksyma Berlinskoho St, 12 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Alisher Navoi Avenue, 1 (Left Bank);
  • Ukrainian regional blood transfusion centers (in accordance with their requirements and donor’s reception hours).

We want to remind you that Road Safety Weeks in Ukraine are held twice a year as part of the events of the 2nd Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly. The target of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly Resolution 74/299 is to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50% during that period.

The Weeks are one of the biggest information and educational platform to draw public attention to the problems of road traffic injuries and are aimed at consolidating the efforts of state authorities, departments, structures, public and media to develop joint solutions and solve this problem.
