According to the Department of Patrol Police, in 2023, there were 23 642 road accidents in Ukraine with killed and injured, which is 26.9% more than in 2022.
The number of people killed in road accidents also increased las year. Last year 3 053 citizens died as a result of road accidents (in 2022 – 2 791), including 175 children (in 2022 – 125). 29 502 more people were injured (in 2022 – 23 145), including 4 538 children (in 2022 – 2 978).
The largest number of road accidents with victims in 2023 were registered in Dnipropetrovsk region – 2 140 road accidents. The top three regions with the highest number of accidents also included: Lviv and Kyiv regions, where 2001 and 1807 road accidents, respectively, were registered during the year. In 2023, 1 894 road accidents with killed and injured were registered on the roads in Kyiv (in 2022 – 1487).
The largest number of fatalities as a result of accidents in 2023 were registered on the roads of Dnipropetrovsk region – 283 dead (in 2022 – 280), Kyiv region – 221 dead (in 2022 – 183) and Lviv region – 220 dead (in 2022 – 238). Last year 103 citizens died on the roads in Kyiv (in 2022 – 83).
The main causes of road accidents with victims in 2023 were:
exceeding safe speed – 1570 dead and 11 564 injured;
violation of maneuvering rules – 476 dead and 6 465 injured;
violation of rules for crossing intersections – 73 dead and 2 879 injured;
violation of rules for pedestrian crossings – 106 dead and 1 643 injured;
infraction of the vehicular distance – 84 dead and 1 436 injured;
driving vehicles in the state of alcoholic intoxication – 96 dead and 1226 injured;
pedestrian crossing in an undisclosed location – 167 dead and 648 injured;
driving to oncoming traffic – 145 dead and 816 injured.
