NOVEMBER 19, WORLD DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR ROAD TRAFFIC VICTIMS

Every year, on the third Sunday of November, in accordance with the UN Resolution, the events are held all over the world to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

The purpose of this day is to draw attention to the terrible extent of mortality on the roads and potential risks for all road users, to create strong public support to the ideas of changing the minds of road users in terms of mutual respect, compliance with traffic rules, improving driving culture, honoring the memory of those killed in the road accidents to show compassion to the families who have suffered heavy losses.

Unfortunately, Ukraine has one of the highest road traffic deaths rates in Europe. Every year we lose, on average, 3 thousand of our citizens on the road.

The reasons include violation of traffic rules, speeding, drunk driving, low level of road behavior, lack of timely and proper assistance to victims.

On this day, memorial liturgies for the victims of road accidents will be held in temples of all denominations of Ukraine. The International Charitable Foundation “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents” joins these activities.

We express our sincere condolences to those who lost their relatives and friends in road accidents. We also appeal to all drivers to turn on dipped headlights on their cars in on November 19 as a sign of solidarity and support, thus honoring the memory of those killed in the road accidents.

We can prevent future tragedies by strictly following the safety rules on the road, being careful and aware, taking care of ourselves and those around us!
