On February 16, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved Bill №2695, which increased the responsibility offenses in the field of road safety.

In particular,  for driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other intoxicants:

• for the first time: a fine of 17 thousand hryvnas + deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for one year;
• repeatedly during the year: a fine of 34 thousand hryvnas + deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for three years with or without paid seizure of vehicles, or administrative arrest for ten days with deprivation of the right to drive for three years with paid seizure of vehicles or without;
• twice a year: a fine of 51 thousand hryvnas + deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for ten years with confiscation of the vehicle, or administrative arrest for fifteen days with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for ten years, with confiscation of the vehicle.

Increasing the fine for exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 50 km / h ‒ from 510 hryvnas to 1700 hryvnas.

For leaving the accident place  ‒ the fine is from 255 to 3400 UAH with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 1-2 years or without.

For driving or giving a vehicle to a person who does not have the driver license ‒ from 510 to 3400 UAH, and repeated during the year ‒ 40 800 UAH with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for 5 to 7 years (also possible withdrawal of vehicles).

For driving a vehicle by a person who was deprived of such a right, from UAH 510 to UAH 20,400, and repeated during the year ‒ UAH 40,800 with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 5 to 7 years (possible withdrawal of vehicles).

An increase in the fine to 510 hryvnas for violators shines for: 

• unfastened seat belt;
• talking on the phone while driving without a headset;
• lack of a helmet for a motorcyclist.

Penalties will also increase for violators-pedestrians: for crossing in an unauthorized place 255 hryvnas (now 51 hryvnas).

The law will enter into force on the day of its publication.

The amendments to the legislation will significantly increase the responsibility of drivers and pedestrians on the roads, and will have a positive impact on the statistics of road traffic injuries in the country.
