For reference

Road Safety Week in Ukraine is held twice a year, as part of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, proclaimed by UN General Assembly Resolution 64/255 of 10.05.2010, and to improve road safety in Ukraine.

Road traffic injuries, according to the WHO, are one of the world’s biggest health problems. According to the European Regional Road Safety Report for 2019, published by the WHO, more than 80,000 people die on the roads in the European region every year, more than 221 people every day. More than a thousand people are injured every day. The risk of dying in road accidents varies from country to country, but low- and middle-income countries account for 70%.

Mortality rates in our country are 3-4 times higher than in European countries. Every year, according to various statistics, Ukraine loses more than 3,000 of its citizens in road accidents, and about 30,000 are injured. Our scientists estimate the losses of the state due to the premature death of Ukrainian citizens as a result of an accident at the equivalent of almost UAH 7 billion. For 9 months of 2020, according to the Patrol Police, more than 118,884,000 road accidents occurred in Ukraine, which is 3.6% more than in the same period last year; with victims – 19 123 (in comparison with last year more by 3,7%). For 9 months on the roads of the country died: 2,484 people (+ 4.9%), injured almost 23.7 thousand (+ 0.9%).
