Ukraine has joined the 6th Global Road Safety Week

On May 17, the Road Safety Week started in Ukraine. Our country has joined the world community and held a number of events in support of this year’s theme, aimed at safe streets and roads and reducing the speed of vehicles to 30 km / h within residential and pedestrian areas.

The week opens the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety for 2021-2030, approved by UN General Assembly resolution  74/299 at its 74th session last August, with the ambitious goal of reducing the number of deaths and injuries by 50 % by 2030.

During the press conference in IA “Ukrinform”, which was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Patrol Police of Ukraine, the State Security Service of Ukraine Transport, the State Agency for Infrastructure Projects of Ukraine and the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine, were discussed the state’s long-term plans to achieve this goal, in particular in the implementation of the new state Strategy and Program to improve road safety until 2024.

The International Charitable Fund “Assistance to Victims of Road Accidents”, which implements the national project “Safe Country”, annually supports the Week and is the leader in a number of its activities:
  • together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau we launched the 4th annual all-Ukraine competition of photo and video works among children and youth “Safe Country”;
  • with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine will hold an annual single national lesson on road safety “Safe way to home”;
  • will hold a nationwide charity event to donate blood for the victims of the accident “Give blood to save lives.”
The national project “Safe Country” has an informational and explanatory nature and aims to promote among the public. The topic of the project related to road safety is one of the most important for the Foundation. Every year the country loses more than 3 thousand people in road accidents, about 30 thousand are injured. Every year more than 200 children die as a result of road accidents.

Therefore, the Foundation continues to develop new interesting activities, methodological literature, create print and audiovisual advertising, attracting all possible resources, international experience, relevant government agencies, interested public and commercial organizations.

Together with the organizers and partners of the Road Safety Week in Ukraine, the Foundation invites you to join the events that will take place during May 17-13 in Ukraine.
